The Polish Private Hospitals Association was established in Gdynia in 2002. The Association consists of 52 hospitals located throughout Poland. Together they have about 2,300 hospital beds and nearly 4,000 qualified personnel. In 2002 the hospitals performed a total of over 500,000 outpatient examinations and 58,000 surgeries. Members of the Association support changes to the organization of the Polish healthcare system in order to: improve healthcare for patients, raise the quality of the provided services, and ensure equal rights for the public and private sectors. The Association also introduces and supports various measures fostering the growth of the sector of private hospitals in Poland. Since June this year the Management Board has been working towards joining the European Union of Private Hospitals. In order to achieve the set goals the Association members actively participate in the works of the "healthcare round table" and have prepared their position on the necessary reforms in the organization of the Polish healthcare. In June the Lower Silesian Department held an international conference on the place and role of private hospitals in healthcare.
